Covidosis, have you got it?

Have you noticed a psychological condition which I now call Psychological Covidosis – I have had it a couple of times… the symptoms are a feeling of lowness, often coming on in the evenings, a felt sense of everything being an effort, maybe a bit of ennui and a touch of fear. Looking back does not help as we don’t want the world of over spending, over feeding ever everything’d again, looking forward there is a mist, not much to see… perhaps a worry about the financial future and the effect it will have on those already in poverty. Some call it Anticipatory Grief.

So what does one do now?

Eckhart Tolle tells us… ‘if there is no joy , ease, or lightness in what you are doing, it does not necessarily mean you need to change what you are doing. It may be sufficient to change the how. “How” is always more important than the “what”. See if you can give much more attention to the doing than the result that you want to achieve through it. Give your fullest attention to whatever the moment presents. This implies that you also completely accept what is, because you cannot give your full attention to something and at the same time resist it.

As soon as you honour the present moment, all unhappiness and struggle dissolve, and life begins to flow with joy and ease.’ (The Power of Now 2016.56)

So, I take a moment to notice what is happening in my thoughts, in my body. I do find it hard, its dusk, the light is going, the cold slowly creeping in, I feel that resistance, I’m wanting to get up, move around shake it off, throw it outside the door…. Then I come back and notice – breath- a feeling of my whole-body melting, I notice the sense of ease, of peace.

Covidosis has left… and I feel my centre, my sense of who I am, my inner strength and I am well.
